The biennial Trade and Sustainable Development Symposium, organised by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) and held alongside the WTO ministerial conference for over a decade, is the leading multi-stakeholder platform for intellectual enquiry and dialogue on sustainable development and the global trade and investment system. It acts as an inclusive platform outside of the WTO negotiating setting for sharing ideas, engaging in dialogue, and influencing trade policy negotiations. Drawing in participants from government, business and civil society, the Symposium helps to maintain and elaborate a global vision of sustainable development in trade and investment policymaking.

Reverse Linkage
- It is a sustainable multi-sectoral capacity development modality developed by the IsDB.
- It is a trilateral South-South Cooperation engagement between 2 Member Countries (i.e. a recipient and a provider) where the IsDB acts as a facilitator and a catalyst to design a 2 to 3 years Reverse Linkage project (short term objective) for the sharing of relevant and compatible knowledge and expertise in a Win-Win scenario for all parties involved.
- The IsDB puts in minimum financing and maximum facilitation. In 2016, IsDB leveraged from its partners (member countries and Regional/ International organizations) approximately 88% of the total financing of Reverse linkage projects. Show the effectiveness of the WIn-WIn facilitation undertaken by the IsDB convincing stakeholders to take ownership of the project while the IsDB ensure a robust Monitoring and Evaluation mechanism in place.
- Furthermore, in the design of the Reverse Linkage projects, the IsDB encourages the participation of private sector entities from the respective member countries (i.e. recipient and provider) to value add to the engagement providing a platform for PPP opportunities and JVs to be created.
- To strengthen sustainability, the IsDB requests the provider Member Country stakeholder/s to design an engagement beyond the 3 year project (i.e. short term) and design a roadmap which includes medium and long term engagement without the intervention of the IsDB (i.e. success indicator).
