The biennial Trade and Sustainable Development Symposium, organised by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) and held alongside the WTO ministerial conference for over a decade, is the leading multi-stakeholder platform for intellectual enquiry and dialogue on sustainable development and the global trade and investment system. It acts as an inclusive platform outside of the WTO negotiating setting for sharing ideas, engaging in dialogue, and influencing trade policy negotiations. Drawing in participants from government, business and civil society, the Symposium helps to maintain and elaborate a global vision of sustainable development in trade and investment policymaking.

I am Professor of International Economic Law at the Catholic University of Santos, São Paulo, Brazil and I lecture on WTO law. I was temporary Member of the Brazilian Delegation to the WTO in Geneva, in June and July 2017, working together with the Committes on Trade and Environment, Trade and Development and Technical Barriers to Trade. I am Fellow researcher at the CCGI-FGV (the WTO Chair in Brazil) and I co-authored a book together with Prof Vera Thorstensen in 2016 (Regulatory Barriers to Trade: TBT, SPS and Sustainability Standards). In 2017, I organized the book International Economic Law: promoting sustainable development on local, regional, national and global contexts (a collective work together with my PhD and Masters supervisees besides external colaborators).
