James has over thirty years’ experience in international trade law and policy. He worked on EU and GATT/WTO trade issues for 14 years in Brussels, where he finished as a partner in a Wall Street law firm, including extensive work in the electronics/IT industries. He then was based in Washington, D.C. for 7 years, where he worked as a senior lawyer in the U.S. Department of Commerce on international trade law matters, including WTO litigation. He then moved to S.E. Asia for seven years, doing a mix of law firm work in trade which served a number of ICT companies, and several major technical assistance projects, including a stint at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta. In 2013, he moved to Shenzhen, China to take his present position with Huawei, where he focuses upon trade, customs and investment issues relating to the digital economy.
