The biennial Trade and Sustainable Development Symposium, organised by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) and held alongside the WTO ministerial conference for over a decade, is the leading multi-stakeholder platform for intellectual enquiry and dialogue on sustainable development and the global trade and investment system. It acts as an inclusive platform outside of the WTO negotiating setting for sharing ideas, engaging in dialogue, and influencing trade policy negotiations. Drawing in participants from government, business and civil society, the Symposium helps to maintain and elaborate a global vision of sustainable development in trade and investment policymaking.

Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Service
Head of Technival Advosory Unit
Brasília
I have been working in the international trade area since I graduated in Business Administration at Fundação Álvares Penteado in São Paulo. I started my career in the private sector, in the international trade department of an automotive company, in which I worked for 7 years. Coordinating all the supply chain management of the company´s import transactions helped me to develop my capacity to solve problems in a more agile way. Since the negotiations in the automotive sector are very challenging due to cost reduction requirements, I really needed to be proactive to achieve the companies targets set out in the budget.
In 2009, I was admitted in a specialized government career, named Foreign Trade Analyst, within the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade. I was assigned a position in the unit of Rules of Origin, where I worked with the negotiation of the Rules of Origin Chapter of the Free Trade Agreement between MERCOSUR and The Arab Republic of Egypt. I also participated in several rounds of negotiations between MERCOSUR and other countries. Those negotiations allowed me to improve my communication skills and my interpersonal relationship. In addition, my other activities were associated with the preparation and issuance of notices and regulations related the rules of origin field.
In 2012, I had the opportunity to participate in a program promoted by the Taiwanese Government, called The Academy of International Economic Affairs. It consists in a two-month course in several international subjects such as economics, negotiation techniques, marketing etc. It also included a one-week course on the institutional framework and basic principles of the World Trade Organization - WTO.
After 4 years at the Origin Unit, I was invited to join the CAMEX (Câmara de Comércio Exterior) team. CAMEX is the Brazilian Government Council in charge of formulating, deciding and coordinating policies and activities related to the foreign trade such as international negotiations and commercial disputes involving Brazil in the WTO. My main responsibility is to give support to the coordination of the technical groups that formulates guidelines and orientations for the Brazilian tariff policies. This position helped to develop leadership skills. My activities are to consolidate requests of tariff changes presented by the private sector and analyze them together with statistics of imports and exports, in order to support CAMEX´s decisions. I also prepare the regulations in order to promote the tariff changes approved by CAMEX´s members.
Nowadays I work as Head of International advisory Unit of the Vice-minister of Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade. My team takes care of all the international meetings of the Vice-Minister.
