The biennial Trade and Sustainable Development Symposium, organised by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) and held alongside the WTO ministerial conference for over a decade, is the leading multi-stakeholder platform for intellectual enquiry and dialogue on sustainable development and the global trade and investment system. It acts as an inclusive platform outside of the WTO negotiating setting for sharing ideas, engaging in dialogue, and influencing trade policy negotiations. Drawing in participants from government, business and civil society, the Symposium helps to maintain and elaborate a global vision of sustainable development in trade and investment policymaking.

Judith Fessehaie is a Programme Manager and leads the ICTSD’s Trade and Development programme. Before joining ICTSD, Judith worked as a senior consultant at the Centre for Competition, Regulation and Economic Development (CCRED), Johannesburg, in the area of industrial development and regional industrialisation for international bodies, and national and local institutions. She was also Senior Lecturer for the MPhil in Industrial Policy run by UN IDEP – University of Johannesburg. Prior to that, Judith worked for eight years as a trade and industrial development advisor at TradeMark Southern Africa, the Zambia's Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat as well as short-term consultancies with the World Bank, UNECA, and UNIDO, among others./p>
Judith holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Cape Town, where she was also associated with the Policy Research on International Services and Manufacturing (PRISM) centre. She also holds a MA in Development Economics from Norwich University, a post-graduate diploma in International Trade Law from the Università di Torino, and a Bachelor of Arts from the Università di Milano.
