The biennial Trade and Sustainable Development Symposium, organised by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) and held alongside the WTO ministerial conference for over a decade, is the leading multi-stakeholder platform for intellectual enquiry and dialogue on sustainable development and the global trade and investment system. It acts as an inclusive platform outside of the WTO negotiating setting for sharing ideas, engaging in dialogue, and influencing trade policy negotiations. Drawing in participants from government, business and civil society, the Symposium helps to maintain and elaborate a global vision of sustainable development in trade and investment policymaking.

Mission of Brazil to the WTO
Felipe Hees is a Brazilian diplomat with a strong background in trade negotiations. He holds a Ph.D. in Brazilian History from the University of Brasília, Brazil, and a Master?s degree in Economics from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil. For professional reasons, wrote a thesis on the Doha Round negotiations on antidumping, with honors. As trade negotiator, Mr. Hees has significant professional experience, ranging from services, investment, e-commerce, agriculture, antidumping, safeguards, subsidies, countervailing measures, SPS, and other issues in the multilateral, regional and bilateral context (Mercosur, Free Trade Area of the Americas, Mercosur/European Union, WTO). Mr. Hees has also served as panelist in WTO dispute settlement cases and has authored several publications in his field. He was the Director of the Brazilian Trade Remedies Authority between 2011 and 2014 and headed the unit responsible for trade negotiations with Egypt, Jordan and Morocco. Mr. Hees holds a degree in Economics (UNICAMP, Brazil). Currently Counselor at the Mission of Brazil to the World Trade Organization in Geneva.
