The biennial Trade and Sustainable Development Symposium, organised by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) and held alongside the WTO ministerial conference for over a decade, is the leading multi-stakeholder platform for intellectual enquiry and dialogue on sustainable development and the global trade and investment system. It acts as an inclusive platform outside of the WTO negotiating setting for sharing ideas, engaging in dialogue, and influencing trade policy negotiations. Drawing in participants from government, business and civil society, the Symposium helps to maintain and elaborate a global vision of sustainable development in trade and investment policymaking.

As Vice President for Global Trade and Innovation at the National Foreign Trade Council, Jake drives key advocacy initiatives around digital trade, innovation and the environment and the Council's engagement in trade bodies including the WTO and APEC. As Executive Director of NFTC's Global Innovation Forum, Jake engages startup, business, and government leaders to elevate the opportunities that exist to be global from Day One, explore the challenges that inhibit success, and emphasize how public policies can support access to the global marketplace. From 2005 until 2008, Jake directed the Council’s Cuba policy advocacy and its USA*Engage coalition, a business effort to promote the benefits of American diplomatic and economic engagement in the world. Jake has written about trade and foreign policy for media including Business Week, Inc. and Politico and has provided analysis for outlets including BBC Radio, CNBC, CNN, NBC News, NPR and Time Magazine.
