María Amparo Albán is a lawyer and consultant based in Quito. Studied law at the Pontifical Catholic University (PUCE) and has a master degree in economic law from the Andean University Simon Bolivar (UASB). Has studied international trade negotiation at Harvard and Columbia University. Has developed extensive work on national and international policy on natural resources, trade and sustainability, including the drafting of environmental law legislation. Has participated in different research projects with UNCTAD, OAS, IDB, UNEP, and UNDP. Has worked for different civil society organizations and private sector. Has served as advisor to the Minister of Trade of Ecuador and was Undersecretary of Small and Medium enterprises. Has served as trade negotiator for environmental affairs. In 1996 founded the Ecuadorian Center for Environmental Law (CEDA). Taught trade and environment for ten years in the Pontifical Catholic University (PUCE) in Quito and in different Universities and courses with organizations such as OAS, ECLAC, and others in the region. In 2008 founded ACD Consulting and currently advises government, private sector and civil society organizations. Continues teaching, consulting and practices environmental law.
