The biennial Trade and Sustainable Development Symposium, organised by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) and held alongside the WTO ministerial conference for over a decade, is the leading multi-stakeholder platform for intellectual enquiry and dialogue on sustainable development and the global trade and investment system. It acts as an inclusive platform outside of the WTO negotiating setting for sharing ideas, engaging in dialogue, and influencing trade policy negotiations. Drawing in participants from government, business and civil society, the Symposium helps to maintain and elaborate a global vision of sustainable development in trade and investment policymaking.

Dr. Hong Song is Assistant director and Senior Fellow of Institute of World Economics and Politics (IWEP), Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). He also teaches as a Professor at the Gradual School of CASS. He was awarded as an “Expert of the New Century”by Chinese Ministry of Personnel in 2009. Professor Song is an Economist, his study focuses on trade and investment issues, in particular the impacts of multinational enterprises on industrial development in developing countries, including China. He obtained his Bachelor degree in philosophy from the Department of Philosophy at Northwest University in1987, and Master degrees in economics at Fudan University in1994 and Ph.D. degree in economics 1997in Nankai University.
